Watch this space to see the information on the bands and DJs for our second Bal Loon Exchange! In the meanwhile, take a look at who we had last year…
We’re delighted to welcome the triumphant return of local heroes Paper Moon aboard for the Friday night. Formed in Bristol in 2011 from a love of all things swing and led from the front by jazz singer Lucy Moon; Paper Moon is a swinging, vintage-inspired outfit bursting with energetic swing, effortless repartee and classic tunes from the swing era and beyond.
Lucy and the band have extensive experience of playing for dancers and understand what it takes to get fingers snapping and feet flying; not content with just being behind the microphone, Lucy also cuts a mean rug herself.
Over the last 6 years, Paper Moon have played in dance venues, festivals and jazz clubs all over the South of England and Wales and continue to delight all who dance in their path.
Our Saturday night band are stalwarts of the Bristol balboa scene. The Schmoozenbergs offer authentic gypsy swing stylings with virtuosity, panache and good humour.
The quartet of two guitars, violin and double bass conjure up the mood of 1930s Paris, fused with the energy of a campfire jam session.
From Glastonbury Festival to neighbourhood bars, from Arts Centres to street corners, The Schmoozenbergs have enjoyed showcasing their skills far and wide since forming in 2012 and their gigs in Bristol always attract an eager crowd of dancers.
Put simply, we couldn’t imagine having a balboa exchange in Bristol without them!
The Hot Shoes
Founded in 2014 by two recent graduates of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Pete Komor and Jack Perry-Cockings, The Hot Shoes is an energetic vintage 5 piece swing ensemble that guarantees to get your feet moving with their exciting arrangements from the swing era and beyond.
The band is professional, experienced and entertaining and was founded with dancing in mind.
They love to mix up their repertoire and perform a wide range of swing songs, as well as innovative arrangements of modern popular songs in a classic 20’s style.
Some Bristolians are already familiar with them being part of their promotional videos, and we can’t wait to welcome them for our Sunday afternoon dance.
